MTCOM Project Sea Trials Successfully Completed at the Port of La Spezia
La Spezia, 17 February 2026 – The MTCOM (Marine Terrestrial Communications) project is co-financed by the Regional Programme – European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Liguria 2021-2027 and is developed in line with the technological trajectories of the Ligurian Marine Technology District. The initiative aims to deliver advanced technological solutions supporting the transition of ports towards safer, more sustainable and more efficient operational models.
Sea trials were successfully carried out at the Port of La Spezia, marking a significant milestone in the validation of the system prototype: autonomous units equipped with environmental and operational monitoring sensors, connected and coordinated through a private 5G network.
EdgeLab S.p.A. contributed through the design, integration and operational validation of the autonomous maritime platforms, ensuring the effective performance of control, navigation and data acquisition systems during on-site activities.
The project is carried out in collaboration with SMA-RTY (Project Coordinator), Sitep Italia S.p.A., Infocom S.r.l., University of Genoa and Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies.
