Dynamic Area of ​​Undersea Vehicles

The engineer reports to the R&D manager and must have basic knowledge of dynamic system modeling and validation.

The role

We are looking for a Sales Engineer – AUV & Underwater Systems with a strong technical-commercial mindset and solid knowledge of marine and underwater applications.

The ideal candidate will have a background in engineering, geophysics, oceanography, marine sciences or a related discipline, with experience in the use, configuration or integration of sonar systems and payloads for marine surveys and offshore/underwater operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the business development and technical sales support of EdgeLab AUV systems, working closely with customers, partners, Defence organisations, offshore operators and technical teams.

The position reports directly to the Chief Commercial Officer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and qualify new business opportunities across the Defence & Security, Marine Survey, Offshore Energy and Scientific Research sectors.

  • Manage the entire sales cycle, from opportunity qualification and solution definition to proposal preparation and negotiation support.

  • Understand customers’ operational requirements and translate them into technical solutions, taking into account mission profiles, operating depth, area of operation, endurance, speed, survey accuracy and resolution.

  • Support customers in defining mission plans, sensor configurations and mission operating parameters.

  • Define the technical configuration of AUVs and their payloads, including MBES, Side Scan Sonar, Sub-bottom Profiler, magnetometers, ADCPs, cameras and other oceanographic and geophysical sensors.

  • Analyse RFIs, RFQs, RFPs and tender documentation, contributing to technical solution definition and the preparation of international bids and proposals.

  • Prepare technical and commercial proposals, technical documentation, capability statements and other sales support materials.

  • Work closely with R&D and Engineering teams to integrate and customise systems according to customer requirements.

  • Support technical demonstrations, sea trials, commissioning activities and specialist presentations for customers and partners.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with international customers, technology partners, system integrators and institutional stakeholders.

  • Attend international trade shows, conferences, workshops and industry events.

  • Contribute to market analysis and identify new applications and business opportunities for EdgeLab technology.

Requirements

Education

A degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Engineering, including robotics, electronics, mechatronics, naval engineering or related fields; or

  • Geophysics, Oceanography, Marine Sciences or related disciplines.

Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Marine/offshore surveys

    • Hydrographic surveys

    • Sonar operation, configuration or integration

    • AUV/ROV systems or marine robotics

    • Sensors and payloads for marine applications

    • Technical sales of complex technological systems

  • Practical knowledge of at least some of the main survey technologies, including Multibeam Echosounders (MBES), Side Scan Sonar (SSS), Sub-bottom Profilers (SBP), magnetometers, ADCPs or equivalent systems.

  • Experience in preparing technical proposals, RFQs/RFPs or tender documentation is a strong advantage.

  • Experience in international environments and managing overseas customers or partners is an advantage.

  • Direct experience in AUV/ROV systems, underwater technology, hydrographic surveys, offshore operations or Defence is highly desirable.

Skills and Competencies

  • Develop embedded software in C/C++ for microcontrollers (STM32, ESP32, etc.)

  • We are looking for an Electronics Laboratory Technician to join our team in La Spezia.
    The role will mainly involve electronic assembly and wiring activities, with the opportunity to take part in sea trials on autonomous underwater vehicles and related systems.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Assembly and soldering of electronic circuits using Through-Hole (THT) and Surface-Mount Device (SMD) technologies.
    • Electrical/electronic wiring activities (wires, connectors, harnesses).
    • Use of laboratory equipment (soldering stations, multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies).
    • Support in testing and debugging of electronic prototypes.
    • Participation in sea trials on board RIBs or other platforms.
